State Estimator Plus (SE+)
SE+ is a next-generation state estimation technology designed to overcome the fundamental limitations of traditional power system state estimators. Conventional algorithms, such as WLS and LAV, rely on residual magnitudes and assume the network model and data are largely correct. In real-world operations, however, power systems are often affected by bad data, leverage points, topology errors, parameter inaccuracies, and incomplete measurements—conditions under which traditional estimators may diverge, converge slowly, or produce biased results without clear warning.
SE+ takes a fundamentally different, consistency-based approach. Instead of minimizing residual size, SE+ identifies the most consistent subset of measurements that can reliably explain the system state and rejects measurements that are incompatible with the network model. This allows SE+ to robustly handle bad data, leverage points, topology and parameter errors, and mixed measurement sources, while guaranteeing convergence to a feasible solution. As a result, SE+ delivers fast, reliable, and explainable state estimates and can be deployed as an offline backup, parallel validator, or standalone estimator for transmission and distribution systems—providing operators with higher confidence in system visibility and decision-making.
